MBA Holds Investiture Ceremony for Dr. William Daughtrey
On Thursday, January 11, Montgomery Bell Academy was pleased to hold the Investiture Ceremony for Dr. William H. Daughtrey III, the school's 16th Head of School. In addition to the entire student body and all faculty/staff, over 100 special guests attended the celebration, including heads of many other area schools, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell ('95), members of the MBA Board of Trustees, former faculty members, and others.
During the ceremony, held in Currey Hall in the Burkholder Wellness Center, several individuals spoke about Dr. Daughtrey and the significance of the event at MBA. Speakers included Bill Carpenter ('72, Board Chair), Dr. Clay Bailey (History Department Chair), Claiborne Tompkins ('25), and Dr. Daughtrey himself.
An investiture is a ceremony at which honors or rank are formally conferred on a particular person. While this has been a long-standing tradition at many colleges and universities when new chancellors or presidents are installed, it has become much more prevalent in independent schools in just the past few decades.
