Final match score:
A Team (#1-6): MBA 4, McCallie 5
B Team (#7-12): MBA 3, McCallie 6
The JS Tennis team faced a motivated McCallie team on a beautiful afternoon at Sewanee. Grinding out a 3-3 draw after the singles matches, the Big Red needed to win 2 of 3 doubles matches to retain the Vining Cup for a fourth consecutive season. Unfortunately we lost at #1 and #3 doubles before Max Schlosser and Cole Anderson ended the afternoon on a high note with a decisive 8-4 victory at #2 doubles.
The match of the day for the Big Red came from James Richards who held off two match points as he came back from 4-6 in a tiebreaker to win 9-8 (8-6) at #3 singles.
Other impressive victories came from Cole Anderson, Ricky Reynolds, Armaan Singhvi, and Sam Hamm at #4, #6, #7, and #9 singles respectively. Armaan also teamed up with Christopher Topping for a sturdy 8-5 victory at #4 doubles.
Honorable mention goes to the following JS Tennis Lads playing in their first match wearing the MBA Waffle: Carter Scruggs, Sam Hamm, Blake Kitchin, and Everett Stansell. And of course, the Spring Vining Cup marks the final MBA JS Tennis match for 8th graders: Will Harris, James Richards, Cole Anderson, Jude Bonvissuto, Armaan Singvhi, and Carter Scruggs. Combined with current 8th graders on the Varsity Tennis Team: Alp W., Robert H., and Shaun X., these 8th graders leave the JS Tennis Team with two HVAC Championships and an overall 20-2 record over two years of match play. Very formidible indeed!
