Hoping to rebound from last week’s close-shave loss to Centennial, the JV Reds were not daunted by their own depleted roster today as they welcomed visiting Overton. While the Overtons often pose a pesky, physical challenge, the Reds were up for a contest and used their team movement and combination passing to control the game early.
Michael “Mike the Bike” Spengler got clear in the box and connected on a Griffin Arnold corner to grab our first goal in the first half. In was very much a case of “second verse, same as the first” in the second half, as Mike the Bike finished neatly again on an Arnoldinho corner in the second half to complete his brace.
Some lineup shuffling in the second half meant some new looks for boys in different places. Most notable among these was goalkeeper Ian Baldwin, who, having kept a clean sheet in the first half, had to step into the field as an emergency sub late in the game — he showed his versatility and finesse by doing no less than scoring a goal himself, a tidy shot to the corner to ice the game.
