The varsity wrestling team competed in the Hoover Invitational in Alabama on Friday and Saturday against 25 teams from TN, AL, and LA. It was an individual tournament (wrestlers competed in a bracket with other wrestlers from their weight class), and after the dust settled on Saturday afternoon, the Big Red came away as tournament runner-ups. Catholic HS out of Louisiana edged us out, but it was a great showing by the boys. We had 3 individual champs: Browning Trainer at 195 lbs, Gabe Fisher at 220 lbs, and Max Fisher at heavyweight. We were able to take 2 boys in many of the weight classes, and at 195 lbs, Johnothan Moore finished 3rd. Here are a few other notable performances: Alex Yerbich (4th place), Hudson Frazier (4th place), Gray Blair (4th place), Mac Russ (3rd place), Conor Corby (4th), Claiborne Tompkins (4th).
Other than a lot of gritty performances from the boys that I'm proud of, a highlight of the trip was our pitstop at Buc-ees on the way back last night. I've attached some pictures from the weekend. Up next, the boys compete against Brentwood HS on Wednesday, and then at the Father Ryan Invitational against 58 other teams.
