On August 2, the MBA Envirothon team won the 2024 National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon, an international environmental and natural resources academic competition for high school students. MBA defeated high schools from New York and Maryland in the final round to claim the title. In recent years the MBA team has had several Top 10 finishes in this international event, but this is their first championship.
MBA’s winning team consisted of recent 2024 graduates Emmett Adams, Nate Holder, Luke Keller (team captain), Michael Kong, and Whit Uden, and was led by Faculty Advisor/Head Coach Mr. Chris Spiegl and Assistant Coach Mr. Tyler Blystone. In May the team captured their third consecutive Tennessee state championship, in order to advance to the Envirothon International Tournament.
In recapping the win Mr. Spiegl noted, “This was a total team effort with all five young men playing key roles and being integral to the successful outcome. Their support of each other, positivity, and unselfishness was amazing to watch.” Team Captain Luke Keller added, "Winning the championship was a really special opportunity to represent MBA and the state of Tennessee on the international stage. Coming into the year, we all knew that there was only one outcome where we would walk away satisfied. To me, that is what made the season so special - working with a group of guys who all bought into the same high expectations."
