No practice? No problem. The JV Reds lived out Allen Iverson’s dream scenario this afternoon as they hosted Hendersonville with zero team practices under their belt. Nevertheless, the boys carried the momentum from the week’s tryouts into today’s match and brought a spirited fight to the Commandos (Commandoes?).
The first half went about as one would expect for a team officially assembled 24 hours prior, but the commitment and hunger were there, and the team began to gel into the second half, putting pressure on the Ville’s backline and stringing together solid passes in the final third. Ultimately Brooks Nowell got in behind and caused problems with a cross across the box, which Mikail Idrees pounced on to open our account for the season.
Hendersonville ratcheted up the pressure in the final fifteen minutes, but the Reds defended valiantly, thanks to vocal leadership from Cooper Allen and Owen Rouse. William Virgin had a couple quality saves between the sticks to keep the door slammed shut, and the Reds saw out the game to earn a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
A nice baseline for a promising team; we’re excited to see what they can do once we get to practice together!
