Wilson Visual & Performing Arts Grants

 
MBA is pleased to offer Wilson Grants to deserving high school students (rising 10th–12th grades) for this coming summer. Those students who excel in the areas of the visual arts, vocal, orchestral and instrumental music, theater performance and tech, as well as filmmaking, with an interest in pursuing these disciplines while at MBA and extending to college are eligible for these scholarship grants. The purpose of these summer program grants is to reward excellence and to offer students the opportunity to strengthen their interest and expertise in the arts at MBA and to create a lifelong interest in the arts.

Scholar Description:
The Wilson Visual and Performing Arts Grant recipients are chosen from applicants from the current 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. These students will apply to an approved course or program within one of the disciplines of the visual arts, theater and film, and music. Criteria for selection:
  1. An established track record of excellence in the Visual and Performing Arts classes taken at MBA,
  2. Expressing a keen interest in pursuing some aspect of the arts beyond MBA,
  3. Proven to be of exemplary character and having an established record of representing the school well, both on and off campus,
  4. Completed application for the course or program (once approved for the scholarship by members of the Visual and Performing Arts Department),
  5. Interview with members of the department to discuss your grant proposal.
    
These students will then be expected to:
  1. Appropriately thank the donors of this gift and opportunity.
  2. Demonstrate or show their summer work within the appropriate school context (gallery show for visual artists, performances for musicians, etc.).
  3. Compose a report of their experience prepared in a diary or on line format for the discipline they studied for archival and illustration purposes.
  4. Bring their experiences back to other students within the program, and act as ambassadors and resources for the next group of student grantees.
    
Brief Award Description:
The Visual and Performing Arts Department has $30,000 to divide amongst Music, Theater, and the Visual Arts. The Wilson Grant will cover the cost of tuition (full or partial) for the course or program. Additional room and board fees (in part or full) can also be considered. If funds are available, the award may also include a stipend for travel to and from programs out of the area, depending upon the amount of requests. Travel costs (coach airfare or the equivalent), once approved, will be reimbursed by the school. All other scholarship payments will be made directly from Montgomery Bell Academy.
   
Students should be aware that some programs may incur additional costs or require additional fees. Any miscellaneous costs beyond the approved grant will not be covered. Students are expected to inform the Visual and Performing Arts Department of their acceptance or rejection of these requirements when they are awarded.
