Big Red Defeat Knights in Double Overtime

The JV basketball team wrapped up its season with a 61-59 double overtime victory over Pope Prep. The Big Red led by as many as twelve in the early part of the third, but the game was tight throughout the fourth with the lead changing several times in the final few minutes. Pope was able to hit some big shots to send the game into overtime.

 

In the first extra frame the Big Red once again led only to see the Pope get the tying bucket in the final seconds. The Big Red got a stop to start the second extra frame and executed a set play with Wyatt Stimart finding Seth Taber at the basket where he drew a foul and hit two free throws. On the other end, Loni Pughsley drew a charge to get the ball back and the Big Red were able to evade the pressure to end the game. 

 

Loni Pughsley led the way once again with 17 points, with Seth Taber adding 13 and Wyatt Stimart had 11. Cade Sturdivant had a strong all around game, adding 9. 

 

The JV finishes the year 11-5 with wins over each region opponent.
