In their penultimate game of the regular season, the JS Reds put in a physical shift to out-maneuver an aggressive CPA squad. In a classic Lions vs Big Red matchup, the tone was set early by Thomas Roper's opportune follow up to a goal keeper error, scoring two minutes into the match. Less than ten minutes after that, Jude Andrews drew a foul from an over eager tackle by the Lions' center back, and Sebastian Mueller confidently dispatched the resulting penalty.
The Big Red possessed the ball effectively enough throughout the evening despite CPA's earnest hustle. Ultimately, the Lions' best chance came not from their press or build up play, but from direct play. Their goalkeeper boomed a punt, which was allowed to bounce twice by the MBA back line, and a CPA attacker arrived on the end of it to strike a clean volley that clanged off the crossbar and out. After this scare, MBA 's Jack Schirm connected a cross to Jameson Meriwether's forehead, and the score was 3-0. Charles Denton's tireless running deserved a goal, though it was not to be on this night. However, Hudson McCarter and Evan Hopke's two way defensive and attacking skills were on full display on the wings, as the Big Red came away with a quality win.
Next up is Pope Prep on Tuesday to close out the regular season at 4:15 before the Reds host the first round of the HVAC playoffs on Thursday afternoon.
